MERCURY (Baby Room)

5 months – 2 yrs

In our Whetu Puta room we welcome our beautiful emerging stars and their families.

We use primary caregiving with our youngest infants and toddlers so as to provide a calm environment centred around love, caring and kindness. This provides children with a trusting and caring relationship from which they feel safe and confident to explore and discover the world around them. Through this calm, nurturing environment we believe relationships with kaiako, tamariki and their whānau develop strong lines of communication so as to collaborate together on the care and education of each child.

MARS (Toddler Room)

2 – 3.5 yrs

Our Tau Whetu room is an environment rich in freedom of choice, encouragement and support as tamariki explore, experiment and discover.

Tamariki drive their own enquiry and learning journey through opportunities to question, understand other points of view, build their confidence and further develop relationships through working with peers. We celebrate each child as a unique individual and due to this continue our primary caregiving approach as tamariki transition through from Whetu Puta. As each child is ready, we then transition to a key teacher approach where children continue to have a strong, respectful relationship with a key teacher to feel confident in their environment, but are also encouraged to be independent and develop self-help skills. Interests of tamariki are built upon with opportunities to engage with developmentally appropriate experiences, to ensure tamariki are continued to be challenged while also celebrating whānau aspirations for each child to create a collaborative learning approach.

JUPITER (Preschool Room)

2 – 5 yrs

Our Whetu Pupuhi room is where children have the opportunity to discover and learn through small group experiences that incorporate essential skills for a seamless transition to school.

Our emphasis is not just on literacy and numeracy, but providing tamariki with the opportunity to inquire, question and problem solve through experimentation and exploration. All enquiry learning is child led and focussed and enables children to be empowered to direct their own learning journey.

​The tamariki will have opportunities to visit and collaborate with local primary schools through building and maintaining relationships with their teachers. When the time comes for tamariki to move on to school, whānau are invited to their child’s graduation, which celebrates their journey throughout Co Star Early Learning Centre. We believe this is what empowers tamariki to be shooting stars.
